Minitab – Statistical Modelling for Service Quality

Minitab - Vidualization of InteractionThis hands-on workshop is normally taught in 1 day (or 1.5 days with additional or custom content).  Prerequisites: MINITAB Essentials and Basic Statistical Analysis, or working knowledge of Minitab and basic statistical methods.

Expand your set of available statistical tools by analyzing data from real world problems experienced in the business, service, and transactional industries. Strengthen analysis skills with tools used to explore and describe relationships between variables. Understand the benefit of designed experiments in transactional & business applications. Learn to discover and describe features in data related to the effect and impact of time, and how to forecast future process behavior. Utilize graphical and quantitative approaches to describe similarities and differences between the effects of various factors on important quality characteristics. Learn how to find and quantify the effect that factors have on the probability of a critical event occurring.

Tools Covered Include: GLM; Binary Logistic Regression; Factorial Designs; Time Series Tools Including Exponential Smoothing, Trend Analysis, and Decomposition

Optional topics are special additions to standard Minitab training workshops, and extend the course by about 1/2 day. All Minitab training workshops use the latest, current version of Minitab, and authorized Minitab training materials.

General Linear ModelMinitab - Mult-Vari Chart

  • analyze data using General Linear Model to determine whether the factors affect the response
  • examine effects using main effects plots, interaction plots, and pairwise comparisons
  • understand how to fit and interpret a model containing covariates
  • understand how to fit and interpret a model containing a random factor
  • crossed vs nested factors; random vs fixed factors; balanced vs unbalanced design
  • tree diagrams to model crossed and/or nested factors
  • multi-vari charts to visualize variability due to multiple crossed / nested factors

  • understand the principles of binary logistic regression
  • determine which factors and covariates affect a binary response
  • predict the probability of an outcome
  • understand the meaning of an odds ratio
  • discussion of interactions and examples
  • discussion of covariates and examples
  • assessing, comparing and selecting GLM models

Factorial DesignsMinitab - Pareto Chart of Effects from Factorial Experiment

  • create a factorial design and learn about design principles and properties
  • analyze a full factorial design, generate plots, and interpret results
  • check model assumptions using residual plots
  • use logistic regression to analyze a factorial design with a binary response
  • multi-vari charts to visualize variability in response, due to factors in factorial experiment

Time SeriesMinitab - Time Series Chart

  • learn time series concepts and terms
  • understand the use of trend, decomposition, and smoothing models in time series analysis
  • examine accuracy measures to comparing competing models
  • generate forecasts for a time series


Practice applying these tools using datasets from service applications (solutions included in workbook).

Each workshop participant receives an official Minitab workbook and data files, as well as a certificate for Recertification Units.
